9-1 実在の受容 The Acceptance of Reality

神の意志を恐れるということは、今までに人の心が作り上げた最も奇妙な（自我に基づいた）信念の一つである。
Fear of the Will of God is one of the strangest beliefs the human mind has ever made.

そんなことが起こる可能性はなかったはずだが、起こったとすれば心がすでにかなり深く分裂していて、神の意志が本当に何なのか、それについて自分の心に恐れを抱かせたとしか考えられない。
It could not possibly have occurred unless the mind were already profoundly split, making it possible for it to be afraid of what it really is.

実在は錯覚を除いては、何をも「脅かす」ことはできない。実在は真理を維持できるだけであるから。
Reality cannot 'threaten' anything except illusions, since reality can only uphold truth.

神の意志、それはすなわちあなたのことなのだが、その意志を恐ろしいと見なされているという、まさしくその事実が、あなたは自分が何なのか、それについて確かに恐れを抱いていることを実証する。
The very fact that the Will of God, which is what you are, is perceived as fearful, demonstrates that you are afraid of what you are.

ではあなたが恐れを抱いているのは神の意志にたいしてではなくて、（実は）自分の（自我の）意志にたいしてである。
It is not, then, the Will of God of which you are afraid, but yours.



あなたの意志は（本来）自我の意志ではない。だから自我があなたに逆らおうとするわけだ。
Your will is not the ego's, and that is why the ego is against you.

神にたいする恐れと思えるものは、実際には自分自身の実在を恐れているということ。
What seems to be the fear of God is really the fear of your own reality.

恐怖におびえていては、何にせよ首尾一貫して学ぶことなど不可能だろう。
It is impossible to learn anything consistently in a state of panic.

たとえこの奇跡のコースの目的は、あなたに「自分が何なのか、それを思い出させること」だとしても、もしあなたが自分というものに（どこか無意識で）恐ろしいと自ら信じているなら、当然あなたはこの奇跡のコースの教えを学ぼうとはしないだろう。
If the purpose of this course is to help you remember what you are, and if you believe that what you are is fearful, then it must follow that you will not learn this course.

けれどもあなたは自分が何なのかわかってはいないからこそ、この奇跡のコースの教えを要するわけである。
Yet the reason for the course is that you do not know what you are.




もし何が自分の実在か分かっていないのなら、どうしてそれは恐ろしいものだとそんなに確信できるのだろうか。
If you do not know what your reality is, why would you be so sure that it is fearful?

真理と恐れを結び付けて考えようとすると、かなり不自然なことになるのが関の山。特に何が真理なのか分かっていない者たちの心にはふさわしくないことだ。
The association of truth and fear, which would be highly artificial at most, is particularly inappropriate in the minds of those who do not know what truth is.

こんなことはただ何か自分に自覚できないことと、何か自分が望まないことを勝手に連想しているという意味にすぎない。
All this could mean is that you are arbitrarily associating something beyond your awareness with something you do not want.

では、自分が全く知らない何かについて、（自我から）審きを下そうとしているということはあきらかだ。
It is evident, then, that you are judging something of which you are totally unaware.

あなたがこんな奇妙な事態に自分をおいてしまったので、何があなたの実在なのか確かに分かっている案内役がいなければ、そんな事態から逃れることは不可能だろう。
You have set up this strange situation so that it is impossible to escape from it without a Guide Who does know what your reality is.

この案内役の目的はただ、あなたに自分が何を望んでいるのか気づかせることにすぎない。
The purpose of this Guide is merely to remind you of what you want.

自分のとはかけ離れた意志をあなたに押しつけようとはしていない。
He is not attempting to force an alien will upon you.

その案内役はただあなたが強いる範囲内で、あなた自身の（本来の）意志を再び自覚させるために、あらゆる工夫をしているだけである。
He is merely making every possible effort, within the limits you impose on Him, to re-establish your own will in your awareness.




あなたは自分の意志を自ら自覚できないところへ閉じ込めてしまっており、それはそこにそのままあるが、あなたの手助けをすることはできない。
You have imprisoned your will beyond your own awareness, where it remains, but cannot help you.

聖霊の役目は、あなたの心のなかの真実であるものを正しくないものから選り分けることだと、私は言ったが、それは、聖霊はあなたが（心の奥底の無意識に）隠しているものをのぞき見て、そこにある神の意志を見分ける力をもっているという意味で言った。
When I said that the Holy Spirit's function is to sort out the true from the false in your mind, I meant that He has the power to look into what you have hidden and recognise the Will of God there.

聖霊はあなたの心のなかにある。したがって聖霊はあなたの実在でもあるので、聖霊がその意志を再認することでそれをあなたにとって実在的なものにできる。
His recognition of this Will can make it real to you because He is in your mind, and therefore He is your reality.

では、もし聖霊があなたの心を知覚することでそれの実在性をもたらすのなら、聖霊は確かにあなたが自分は何なのか、それを思い出す手助けをしてくれている。
If, then, His perception of your mind bring its reality to you, He is helping you to remember what you are.

こうした過程においてただ一つ恐れの源があるとすれば、それはあなたが「自分は何を失うことになると思うか」だ。
The only source of fear in this process is what you think you will lose.

しかし、ただ聖霊が見るものだけを、あなたは持つことができる。
Yet it is only what the Holy Spirit sees that you can possibly have.




私が何度も強調しておいたことだが、聖霊は決してあなたに何かを犠牲にするようにとは要求しない。
I have emphasised many times that the Holy Spirit will never call upon you to sacrifice anything:

しかし、もしあなたが自分自身の実在を犠牲にすることを求めるなら、聖霊はそんなことはあなたの意志ではないから、神の意志ではないと気づかせなければならない。
But if you ask the sacrifice of reality of yourself, the Holy Spirit must remind you that this is not God's Will because it is not yours.

あなたの意志と神の意志とには何の相違もないのである。
There is no difference between your will and God's.

もしあなたの心が（自我に基づいて）分裂していなければ、意図することは意思の疎通をすることであるから、それは救いだと自分で認めるだろう。
If you did not have a split mind, you would recognise that willing is salvation because it is communication.




異国語で意思の疎通をするのは不可能だ。
It is impossible to communicate in alien tongues.

あなたと創造主は創造を通して意思の疎通ができる。というのはその創造、ただそれだけがあなたが意志と心を一つに合わせてすることなのだから。
You and your Creator can communicate through creation, because that, and only that is your joint Will.

分裂された心は意思の疎通ができない。それは同じ心に違ったことを話すからである。
A divided mind cannot communicate, because it speaks for different things to the same mind.

これでは意思の疎通をする能力を失ってしまう。伝えようとすることを混同していたのでは全然何の意味もないのだから。
This loses the ability to communicate simply because confused communication does not mean anything.

伝言が意味をなさないなら、それを伝えることはできない。
A message cannot be communicated unless it makes sense.

自分が望まないことを頼んでいるときには、あなたの言いたいことがどれほど意味をなすだろうか。
How sensible can your messages be, when you ask for what you do not want?

けれども自分の（自我に基づいた）意志に恐れを抱いている限り、あなたはまさしくそんなことを頼んでいるのである。
Yet as long as you are afraid of your will, that is precisely what you are asking for.




「聖霊は自分に答えてくれはしない」と、あなたは言い張るかもしれないが、まず「自分がどんなことを頼んでいるか」、それをよく考えてみるほうがより賢明だといえるだろう。
You may insist that the Holy Spirit does not answer you, but it might be wiser to consider the kind of questioner you are.

あなたは自分の望むものだけを頼んではいない。
You do not ask only for what you want.

それというのも頼んだことを受け取るかも知れないと心配しているからだが、頼めば確かにそういうことになるだろう。
This is because you are afraid you might receive it, and you would.

だから自分の望むものを与えてくれそうにない（自我という）教師に、しつこく頼んでいるわけだ。
That is why you persist in asking the teacher who could not possibly give you what you want.

その教師からはそれが何なのかを決して学べないし、これで自分は安全だという錯覚を与えてもらえる。
Of him you can never learn what it is, and this gives you the illusion of safety.

けれども真理から離れては安全であるはずがないし、真理のうちにおいてのみ安全でいられる。
Yet you cannot be safe from truth, but only in truth.

実在こそ唯一の安全な状態。
Reality is the only safety.

自分の（真の）意志が自らの救いであるというのも、それが神の意志と同じものだからだ。
Your will is your salvation because it is the same as God's.

（自我に基づいた）分離とはそれが異なると信じているだけのことである。
The separation is nothing more than the belief that it is different.




自分の（自我に基づいた）意志は神の意志より強いとなど、正しい心では信じられない。
No right mind can believe that its will is stronger than God's.

では、もしある心が「自らの意志は神のとは違う」と信じるなら、「神はいない」とするかまたは「神の意志は恐ろしいもの」とするか、そのどちらかに決めるしかない。
If, then, a mind believes that its will is different from His, it can only decide either that there is no God or that God's Will is fearful.

最初のは無神論者、後のは殉教者にあてはまり、そうした殉教者は神が「犠牲を要求する」と信じている。
The former accounts for the atheist and the latter for the martyr, who believes that God demands sacrifices.

こんな正気とは言いがたい決心をすると、そのどちらに決めたにせよ恐怖におびえることになる。無神論者は、「自分は一人ぽっちだ」と信じ、殉教者は「神が自分を責め苦しめている」と信じるのであるから。
Either of these insane decisions will induce panic, because the atheist believes he is alone, and the martyr believes that God is crucifying him.

けれども本当はだれも見捨てられたり、仕返しされたりすることなど望んではいない。たとえその両方を求める者が数多くいるとしても。
Yet no one really wants either abandonment or retaliation, even though many may seek both.

聖霊にこんな「贈り物」を頼んだりして、実際にそんなものを受け取れると期待できるだろうか。
Can you ask the Holy Spirit for 'gifts' such as these, and actually expect to receive them?

聖霊はあなたが望まないものを与えることなどできはしない。
He cannot give you something you do not want.

普遍的に与え賜う存在に、自分が望みもしないものを頼むなら、与えてもらえないものを頼んでいることになる。そんなものが創造されたためしはないのだから。
When you ask the Universal Giver for what you do not want, you are asking for what cannot be given because it was never created.

それは、決してあなたの自分にたいする意志ではなかったので、全く創造されてはいないのである。
It was never created, because it was never your will for you.




究極的にはすべての者がきっと神の意志を思いだす。究極的にはきっとだれもがみんな自分自身を再び認めるのだから。
Ultimately everyone must remember the Will of God, because ultimately everyone must recognise himself.

こうした再認こそ自分の意志と神の意志とは一つであると認めること。
This recognition is the recognition that his will and God's are one.

真理につつまれたところでは、不信心な者は一人もいなし何の犠牲もない。
In the presence of truth, there are no unbelievers and no sacrifices.

安全な実在においては、恐れは全く無用となる。
In the security of reality, fear is totally meaningless.

実在するものを否定するということは、ただ恐ろしく思えるだけだ。
To deny what is can only seem to be fearful.

原因もなしに恐れが本当になるはずがないし、神こそ唯一の原因である。
Fear cannot be real without a cause, and God is the only Cause.

神は愛そのものであり、あなたが神を望んでいることは確かである。
God is Love and you do want Him.

これこそまさにあなたの（真の）意志。
This is your will.

これを頼むがいい。そうすればあなたの願いはかなえられる。ただ自分に属するものを頼んでいるだけであるから。
Ask for this and you will be answered, because you will be asking only for what belongs to you.




あなたが自分を傷つけるようなものを聖霊に頼むなら、それはかなえられない。それというのもあなたを傷つけられるものは何一つないので、実存しないものを頼んでいることになるからである。
When you ask the Holy Spirit for what would hurt you He cannot answer because nothing can hurt you, and so you are asking for nothing.

自我から生ずる願望はどれも実存しないものへの願望であり、それを頼むのは願いごとにはならない。
Any wish that stems from the ego is a wish for nothing, and to ask for it is not a request.

それは単に願いごとをするというかたちで否定しているにすぎない。
It is merely a denial in the form of a request.

聖霊は意味だけに気づいているので、そのかたちには関心がない。
The Holy Spirit is not concerned with form, being aware only of meaning.

自我は聖霊に何も頼めない。両者のあいだには全く意思の疎通がないのだから。
The ego cannot ask the Holy Spirit for anything, because there is complete communication failure between them.

けれどもあなたは聖霊からあらゆるものを頼める。というのもあなたの正しい心からの願いは本当の願いだからである。
Yet you can ask for everything of the Holy Spirit, because your requests to Him are real, being of your right mind.

聖霊は神の意志を拒んだりするだろうか。
Would the Holy Spirit deny the Will of God?

それに聖霊が御子のなかにあるその意志を、見分けられないということなど有り得るだろうか。
And could He fail to recognise it in His Son?




真理を否定するのに途方もないほど無駄な精力を費やしていることに、あなたは気づいていない。
You do not recognise the enormous waste of energy you expend in denying truth.

ある人が、「不可能を可能にすることが成功につながる」と信じて、あくまでもそれを達成しようとするなら、その人のことをあなたはどう思うだろうか。
What would you say of someone who persists in attempting the impossible, believing that to achieve it is to succeed?

幸福になるためには、「不可能なことを自分のものとしなければならない」と信じるのは創造の原理と全面的に食い違っている。
The belief that you must have the impossible in order to be happy is totally at variance with the principle of creation.

幸福があなたには絶対に手に入れられないものに依存するということなど、神が意図するはずがない。
God could not will that happiness depended on what you could never have.

神は愛そのものであるという事実は、それを信じる必要はないが、受け入れる必要はある。
The fact that God is Love does not require belief, but it does require acceptance.

確かに、事実を否定するのは可能だ。もっともそれをあなたが変えるということは不可能だが。
It is indeed possible for you to deny facts, although it is impossible for you to change them.

もしあなたが両手で自分の目を覆うなら、見るための法則を妨げているので見えなくなる。
If you hold your hands over your eyes, you will not see because you are interfering with the laws of seeing.

もしも愛を否定するなら、自分で協力することがその愛が実在するための法則なので、あなたにはそれが分からなくなる。
If you deny love, you will not know it because your co-operation is the law of its being.

あなたは自分で作らなかった法則を変えることはできないし、幸福の法則はあなたのために創造されたのであって、あなたが創造したのではない。
You cannot change laws you did not make, and the laws of happiness were created for you, not by you.




どのようにであれ、あるのは確かだといえることを否定しようするのは恐ろしいことには違いないし、もしも強いてそれを試みるなら、狼狽するようになるだろう。
Any attempt to deny what is must be fearful, and if the attempt is strong it will induce panic.

実在に反対する意向をもつということは、まず不可能なこととはいえ、自分でそんな目標を本当は望んでもいないのに、それをかなりしつこく目標としてかかげられことはありえる。
Willing against reality, though impossible, can be made into a very persistent goal even though you do not want it.

だが、こんな奇妙な決心をしたその結果をよく考えてみてほしい。
But consider the result of this strange decision.

自分が望まないものに自らの心をささげていることになる。
You are devoting your mind to what you do not want.

そんなことにどれほど真剣に打ち込めるだろうか。
How real can this devotion be?

もしもあなたが望まないのなら、そんなものは絶対に創造されてはいない。
If you do not want it, it was never created.

もし創造されたためしがないとすれば、実存しないということだ。
If it were never created, it is nothing.

実存しないものに自分自身を本気でささげられるだろうか。
Can you really devote yourself to nothing?




神は自らのあなたにたいする深い愛ゆえに、あらゆるものへと愛をささげるあなたを創造し、あなたが心を打ち込めるものをあなたに与えてくれた。
God in His devotion to you created you devoted to everything, and gave you what you are devoted to.

そうでなかったら、あなたは完全に創造されてはいなかっただろう。
Otherwise you would not have been created perfect.

実在はすべてであり、あなたは実在的なものであるからすべてを持っている。
Reality is everything, and you have everything because you are real.

実在を欠いた状態は恐ろしいので、あなたは実在的でないものなど作れないし、恐れを創造することはできない。
You cannot make the unreal because the absence of reality is fearful, and fear cannot be created.

恐れは可能だと信じるかぎり、あなたが創造することはないだろう。
As long as you believe that fear is possible, you will not create.

相反する実在の階級は実在を無意味にしてしまうが、実在こそ意義そのものであることは確かである。
Opposing orders of reality make reality meaningless, and reality is meaning.




そこで、神の意志はすでに可能なことであり、他には可能になるものは何もないということを思い出してほしい。
Remember, then, that God's Will is already possible, and nothing else will ever be.

これは単に実在を受け入れることにすぎない、本当なのはそれだけであるから。
This is the simple acceptance of reality, because only that is real.

実在を歪めておいてそれが何なのか知ることはできない。
You cannot distort reality and know what it is.

それにもし実在を歪めるなら、不安になったり、ゆううつになったり、究極的には恐怖におびえるだろうが、それは自分自身を実在的でないものにしようとしているからである。
And if you do distort reality you will experience anxiety, depression and ultimately panic, because you are trying to make yourself unreal.

このような気持ちになったときには、自分自身を越えたところに真理を捜そうとしないことだ。真理はあなたのうちにのみあるのだから。
When you feel these things, do not try to look beyond yourself for truth, for truth can only be within you.

したがって、次のように言うがいい。
Say, therefore:


キリストは自分のなかにあり、キリストがいるところにこそ神がいるに違いない。キリストは神の大切な部分であるから。
Christ is in me, and where He is God must be, for Christ is part of Him.
